Bristol Street Motors Burton Citroen and Gresley Rovers Ladies are celebrating success both on and off the pitch, after the newly-formed side secured title success in its first season.

Gresley Rovers, currently playing in the eighth tier of English football, announced the formation of a women’s team ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, with two colleagues from Bristol Street Motors Burton Citroen amongst those to sign up for the inaugural season.

On the pitch, General Manager Mollie Deacon and Sales Advisor Kirsty Isom have played key roles in a season that exceeded all expectations; Gresley Rovers Ladies secured the top spot in the Leicestershire Women’s and Girl’s Football League Division 2.

A 4-2 victory over Ashfordby Amateurs back in September kicked off a nine-game unbeaten start to the league campaign. The team quickly emerged as realistic championship contenders, with the title secured with a game to spare after a 6-3 win away at Hinckley Borough, in which Mollie Deacon scored twice.

Whilst Mollie and Kirsty did their job on the pitch, Bristol Street Motors Burton Citroen threw its support behind the Gresley Rovers Ladies squad, by signing up as one of the inaugural sponsors. The Bristol Street Motors dealership provided each member of the team with a sports top promoting Burton Citroen, which is located on Nicholson Way in the town.

The dealership also sponsored the final game of the season, which was held at Gresley’s main Moat Ground Stadium and saw the team beat the Leicester City LFC Development team 3-0. This ended the league campaign with an impressive record of 15 wins, two draws and just one defeat.

“As a small dealership, we haven’t really been in a position to engage in sponsorship deals in the past, but the formation of the women’s team provided an opportunity for us to give something back to the local community and promote our dealership at the same time,” Mollie said.

“I think this season turned out to be way more successful than any of us felt it would be, and to win the title is an amazing feeling. I’m hugely proud that not only did we win the title at the first attempt, but we did it with Bristol Street Motors Burton Citroen taking pride of place on our kits! Hopefully this can be the start of plenty of success together in the future.”
